Wheat Biscuit | 3 Ingredient Atta Biscuit Recipe | Whole Wheat Biscuit without Maida and Egg

Wheat Biscuit is made with whole wheat flour, butter and sugar. Usually, biscuits are prepared with maida instead of wheat. But today, I have tried it with whole wheat flour.

It is one healthy and perfect snack to munch on with a sip of hot tea in the evenings.

What is Wheat Biscuit?

This wheat biscuit recipe can be prepared with just 3 basic ingredients that are easily available at every kitchen.

Biscuits and cookies usually create confusions.

Let me tell you the small difference between the two: Biscuits are generally hard and can be of any shape like circular, rectangular, square etc. Also, biscuits can be sweet or as a savoury. Whereas, Cookies are usually sweet, in a circular shape and are soft and sometimes fluffy too.

Biscuits have more butter when compared to cookies, as they need to be more crispy and hard.


These biscuits are super easy to prepare and even a beginner can make it with ease.

It is a very popular snack in India, and tastes the best when dipped in tea/chai.

To give it some extra flavour, you may add a little cardamom powder or nutmeg.

In India, tea is a very popular and almost is a must have drink/beverage. People usually drink tea atleast 2 times a day, one in the morning & the other in the evenings. It has almost become a habit.

Be it any gathering, or meetups, office meetings etc. tea is served everywhere. Also when we have guests at our home be it during the daytime or in the night, tea is served to all. First thing that comes to our mind when you have a glass of hot tea in your hand is something hard or crunchy to bite on.

I definitely would expect something crispy or crunchy to munch on along with a sip of hot tea. Believe me guys, it really tastes divine when you dip the biscuit or rusk into the hot tea and have a bite.

Preferably, rusk or biscuit or some hot pakodas, beetroot chips, crispy corn, gobi 65 etc.

The best part about this recipe is it doesn’t require eggs, baking powder, baking soda nor any sort of beater or blender.

If you find it difficult or lazy to make small balls and flatten it to make biscuits, you may roll it flat like chapathis and use a bottle or jar cap or a cookie cutter if you have one, to cut into shapes. That’s a more simpler way to prepare these biscuits in large quantities.


How to prepare wheat biscuit?

Firstly, before starting to prepare the biscuits, you need to make sure the butter is completely at room temperature. Add the butter into a bowl. Preferably unsalted butter. [How to make homemade butter from milk in 5 minutes]

Using a beater or hand whisk, beat it until smooth and creamy.

After few minutes, butter turns pale whitish.

Add powdered sugar and whisk again until it combines with the butter and forms smooth paste. I prefer using powdered sugar over granulated ones, as it melts quickly.

Once sugar combines well, add the wheat flour. It is not necessary to sift the flour. You may sift it if you feel there are lumps in the flour.

combine well until it forms a thick dough. Like chapathi dough. You can add a very amount of milk if the dough isn’t binding well or forming a dough. If it’s sticky, you can add a spoon full of flour or butter to grease. Knead the dough for 2 minutes.

Take small portions of dough and make a small ball.

Gently flatten it between your palms. at the same time, don’t make it too thick. Make it little thin so it bakes faster.

Give it a shape of your choice. I have used a spoon and fork to give it a striped and star shapes. Use the edge of the handle of spoon or fork to give it different shapes.

Grease a baking tray or cake tin with butter or oil. Place a baking or parchment sheet. Place the biscuit dough on the tray. Preheat the oven @ 180 C.

Bake the biscuits @180 C for 12-15 minutes. Use a tooth pick to check it is baked completely. A toothpick inserted, should come out dry and nothing should stick to it. Crisp at the edges & soft inside. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely. Now, it turns harder like how biscuits usually are. Do not bake for more time thinking it is still softer. It gets harder as it cools.
